the ₹150 guldasta and the ₹1,499 one

A guldasta on Meesho or Shopsy costs ₹106 to ₹399. Ours is ₹1,499. That is roughly ten times the price for something that, in a listing photograph on a phone screen, looks broadly similar. So — why are handmade guldasta expensive? Not because handmade is a virtue. Because of where the hours go, which is worth showing rather than asserting.

The arithmetic

• A single petal is one length of chenille wrapped, pinched and shaped. Under a minute, once your hands know it.
• A medium flower is 18–25 stems and about half an hour.
• A large bouquet is 12+ flowers — roughly 250–400 stems and eight to eleven hours of hand time.
• The giant sunflower on our stall table took about 400 pipe cleaners on its own.

A ₹150 guldasta contains none of those hours. It is moulded plastic assembled on a line, and the price is honest for what it is.

What the money actually buys

Made after you order. Nothing exists in a warehouse. The colours you asked for in the order notes are the colours that get wound, which is a thing mass production structurally cannot offer at any price.

A wire in every petal. Crush it, open it back out, it is the flower again. Plastic petals snap and stay snapped.

No two identical. The third flower in a batch is better than the first, which is true of every handmade thing and is why makers never make just one.

When the ₹150 one is the right call

If you need a filler for a shelf in a rented flat, or twenty pieces for a one-evening event backdrop, buy the cheap one. It will do that job perfectly well and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.

The handmade one is for when the object is the gift — when someone will pick it up, ask where it came from, and still have it next year.
